Memo to Umpires. WELCOME! 2010 UMPIRES REGISTER HERE! Click on "Umpires Register Here" and register on-line in order to umpire NOLL/SOLL games (signing up as an umpire volunteer with your child's team does not get you registered). -CLINICS: There are presently three more clinics currently scheduled--the small diamond field mechanics clinic on Saturday, Feb. 20, from 2 to 5; a rules clinic on Thursday, March 11, from 7 to 9:30; and a large diamond field mechanics clinic on Sunday, March 14, from 10 to 1. All are at Bishop O'Dowd and will be held, rain or shine. Each umpire, including returning umpires, must attend one rules clinic and one field mechanics clinic each year. You can attend either the small diamond or large diamond field mechanics. You do not need to "RSVP" to attend a clinic--just come. --District 4 is holding its annual, excellent all-day field mechanics clinic on March 6 from approximately 8:30 to 4 (the specific time will be posted later.) It is in Alameda at the Little League complex at Otis and Grand. NOLLSOLL will pay your registration if you go. Please let Gary Greenfield know (ggreenfield@litcost.com) if you intend to attend so we can tell the District 4 organizers how many people to expect. If you attend this clinic, you do not need to attend one of our field mechanics clinics, but do have to attend one of our rules clinics. -REQUESTING GAMES: Once the various division schedules are posted, you will be able to request games. After registering here (and waiting a day or so for the registration to be entered into the system), you can request games through Sportability. You will receive an email confirming your request and, normally within a few days, another email assigning you the game or denying the request with an explanation (for example, someone else had requested it first.) -MENTORING PROGRAM: There is a mentoring program for people who are interested in working with more experienced umpires initially. When you register to umpire, you will be asked whether you are interested in either mentoring or being mentored. You will also see a list of games with available mentors when you go onto Sportability to request games and can be paired with a mentor by requesting one of them. -RULE UPDATES--Little League has issued changes to its rules and regulations. There are two of interest so far. One requires that there be an adult umpire for each game. The specific language of this rule has not been issued yet, however. The other eliminates the "skip game" option for pitching days of rest. 2010 CLINICS--The dates of NOLLSOLL's umpire clinics (held in February and March) will be announced soon. District 4 has its excellent all-day Basic Umpire Clinic on Saturday, March 6, 2010, with the specific time and place to be announced. The Little League Western Region field and plate mechanics clinic this year is on January 16-17 in San Bernardino. Anyone interested in attending (NOLLSOLL will pay the expenses) should contact Gary Greenfield (ggreenfield@litcost.com) soon to find out if spots are still available. Join the NOLLSOLL Umpire Discussion Forum We have a discussion forum for talking about rules and other issues and finding game assignment replacements. In order to join, go to http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/nollsoll and ask to join the group. On the top right hand side of the page, find the button entitled "Join This Group".
