2006 10-11S DIVISION II TOURNAMENT
|
NOLL/SOLL HOSTS 10-11 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
NOLL/SOLL and AlbanyLL have been honored by Section 1 and District 4 with the call to cohost the Division II Tournament for the 10-11 AllStars.
Division II comprises the final 6 teams in Northern California at the 10-11 age level. (At Majors and above, the winner of Divisional games moves on to the Western Region, but this tournament is the holy grail for these 6 teams.) To get here, each of these 6 teams first won their District Banner against 5-15 local leagues. Then, competing against 5-7 other District winners, they won their Section Banners:
Section 1, District 3 Novato North (Noth Bay)
Section 2, District 26 McKinleyville (Eureka)
Section 3, District 52 Palo Alto National (Peninsula)
Section 4, District 54 El Dorado Hills North (Sacramento)
Section 5, District 44 Moreland (San Jose)
Section 6, District 10 River Park (Fresno)
NOLL/SOLL will be hosting 6 games including the opening day (7/27) and the Championship round (8/1 and 8/2) at beautiful Chabot Field. If you have an evening or afternoon free, please come down and watch these great teams play for Nor-Cal bragging rights!
Kudos to Allison Rodman, Phil Williams, Mike Anglin, Elliott Lieberman, Tammy Menton and all the other volunteers who have transformed already-beautiful Chabot field into a baseball paradise, coordinated with our cohosts AlbanyLL and the 6 participating teams, handled TD duties, arranged for TShirts and snacks and onsite parking, and did we mention how great the field looks? And an extra thanks to all the Juniors players who have come out to help us host - a swarm of helpful teens that put the icing on the cake of a successful tournament!
DIVISION II CHAMPIONS: RIVER PARK LL

Final Bracket
8/1/06 - Sect6-Dist10 River Park LL rode the strong pitching of birthday-boy Christian Rossi and took the 10-11 Division II Banner this afternoon at pastoral Chabot field. River Park was aggressive on the bases and overcame two 5th inning home runs by Sect5-Dist44 Moreland LL to hang on for a 7-4 victory. Congratulations to River Park's Frank Gallegos on the win. Congrats also go out to Jim Downey and the Moreland 10-11 AllStars, who fought valiantly through the Divisional elimination bracket to earn their berth in the title game.
It was a great day to be from River Park; in addition to the 10-11 victory, the River Park 9-10 team played in the Division semifinals and the River Park Majors team also won the Division II banner, advancing to the West Region tournament held in San Bernardino!
7/31/06 - Sect5-Dist44 Moreland completed their run thru the elimination bracket this afternoon at Albany's University Village fields, besting Sect1-Dist3 Novato North 6-0. Novato North completed a fine season, having lost once to each of the Division finalists. Moreland earns a rematch with their first round opponent, Sect6-Dist10 River Park, and must win Tue to set up a winner takes all championship on Wed.
7/30/06 - In Albany, Sect5-Dist44 Moreland posted 4 runs in the 6th to eliminate Sect4-Dist54 El Dorado Hills North. In the winners' bracket, Sect6-Dist10 River Park came from behind to beat a game Sect1-Dist3 Novato North. Novato North's starting pitcher played with a noticable limp and had difficulty pushing off while pitching and hitting; it was discovered after the game that he was playing with a broken bone in his foot! Great skill and great passion is being displayed in these games... River Park will play the winner of Monday's elimination game between Moreland and Novato North.
7/29/06 - Sect5-Dist44 Moreland rallied behind the fine pitching of Sean Downey to eliminate Sect3-Dist52 Palo Alto National this afternoon. Palo Alto was led by Alec Wong's who gave 3 strong innings on the mound and contributed a solo HR, but it wasn't enough to overcme Moreland's allround game. Final score was 6-3.
In Albany, Sect4-Dist54 El Dorado Hills North fixed the defensive lapses they had suffered the day before and eliminated Sect2-Dist26 McKinleyville 7-1.
7/28/06 - Sect6-Dist10 River Park brought their lumber and then took advantage of defensive lapses by Sect4-Dist54 El Dorado Hills North to win 17-4. Great pitching by River Park's Christian Rossi, and the tournament's first home run - a two-run clout off the bat of Nick Gastro.
River Park advances to the winners' bracket final vs Sect1-Dist3 Novato North, who defeated Palo Alto National 3-1 in a thriller.
7/27/06 - Sect6-Dist10 River Park pulls out a gritty win over Sect5-Dist44 Moreland with 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th.
