Fundraiser for NOLL/SOLL with Photographer Jean Fruth – Thurs June 27th

https://www.eventbrite.com/e/series-of-interesting-people-sip-at-charles-krug-winery-tickets-63488430605

Charles Krug Winery is pleased to announce the launch of our new speaker series, a Series of Interesting People (SIP), with special guests, Jean Fruth, author/photographer of Grassroots Baseball: Where Legends Begin and Jeff Idelson, President of the Baseball Hall of Fame. The evening will include both a book signing and a live audience Q&A moderated by local sports reporter Gus Morris, (who just happened to play on Fruth’s little league team in his youth).

Jean Fruth was the traveling photographer for the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum and now shoots for their Latino media partner, La Vida Baseball. Some of her most memorable images will be on display at this event. Her first book, Grassroots Baseball: Where Legends Begin, features more than 250 of her best images from all levels of the amateur game in the US, as well as from several hotbeds of baseball around the world. Each chapter opens with a portrait of a baseball legend and a first-person essay recounting his early memories of playing the game. Among the 16 legends, 13 are Hall of Famers, including Hank Aaron, Cal Ripken, Jr., Whitey Ford, Rickey Henderson and Randy Johnson.

Jeff Idelson Jeff Idelson has spent 33 years in baseball, eight with the Red Sox and Yankees, and the last 25 with the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. Retiring this summer after 11 years as president, Idelson has a deep knowledge of The Game and its history, and stories about its legendary players.

Tickets to this event are free.

Book: Signed copies of Jean Fruth’s book will be available for sale for $60. For each book sold a matching $60 will be donated to Oakland Little League

Refreshments, wine, and light snacks available for purchase.

Purchase a copy of the book online if you can’t make it. Use the code noll/soll or Oakland LL and help raise funds for NOLL/SOLL.

Free Winter Warmup clinic Saturday Dec 15

We are holding our annual free Winter Warmup clinic on Saturday December 15th at 10am. Please mark it on your calendar!

To help us gauge attendance please RSVP.

This 1 hour clinic/walkthrough is available for all new or returning 7, 8, 9 year olds (and 10 year olds new to tryouts). We will review basic skills – throwing, fielding and catching, and if time permits hitting. Then we will run through a mock try out sequence. The goal is to help players feel more comfortable going into the player evaluation weekends in early January.

We will meet at Robert Mason fields (next to Golden Gate Rec Center) on San Pablo Ave at 63rd Street in north Oakland on Saturday December 16th at 10am. We plan to go for 1 hour (if we have a high turnout we may go 1.5 hours). Rain will cancel (anything showers up to 24 hours prior). Players should bring a glove, bat and helmet. We will bring baseballs.

We need volunteers to help run our Spring tryouts in January. Please sign up and help out.

If you have friends and family who have not signed up for the Spring 2019 season, please remind them that the competitive division registration deadline is coming up soon – it closes on December 21st (TBall and Farm open until early January).

2018 Northern California champions – Juniors and Seniors!

We are very proud of our Juniors and Seniors All-Star teams – both were 2018 Northern California champions. The Seniors finished in 3rd place in the Western Region and the Juniors were in 4th place in the Western Region. What a great run for the coaches and players on these teams. Our teams are proud to represent Oakland, District 4 and Northern California.

Special thanks to our dedicated managers, Steve Paltiel (Seniors) and Johnny Seal (Juniors) and all of their support staff – it takes a dedicated team of volunteers and parents to make this happen!

Let’s Go Oakland!
